The Cause
Celebrating a new generation of courage in the face of ever-evolving voter suppression
Our country has been experiencing modern twists on centuries-old voter suppression tactics involving anti-voter legislation, political violence, rampant spread of dis/misinformation, efforts to take over our state legislatures to pass restrictive voting bills, and using racist conspiracy theories to increase their power at voters’ expense — especially Black, Latino, Asian American, and Native Americans.
They’re rigging the system in their favor. If the voices and votes of disenfranchised communities did not matter, the system would not be trying so hard to make those voters invisible.
But for democracy to work for us all, it must include us all.
And Still, I Vote
The Content
And Still I Vote is a campaign to help the next generation of voting rights activists show up for their communities, reclaim their power, and realize the full promise of our democracy – the inheritance passed down to them by the activists who marched before us. We used artful visuals to highlight the possibilities that voting brings, while also addressing the challenges posed by hundreds of restrictive voting bills introduced across the country.
The campaign helped to inspire young people that – just like in 1965 – hope for our democratic process is not lost. In fact, we’re part of a multi-generational legacy of those brave enough to push back against centuries of aggression and disinformation aimed at suppressing voter turnout in communities of color.
Contributions included:
- Launch content – Our launch included a star-studded video and a massively influential social blitz. Then, on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday, we released a second more in-depth video helping to illustrate the parallels between historical definitions of voter suppression and the nuanced but nefarious forms of voter suppression we face today.
- Website, digital ads, social, episodic livestreams, influencer content, swag – The pandemic hit just weeks after launch, but the momentum was unstoppable. What was intended to be a nationwide bus tour of IRL voting rights experiences quickly became a digital rallying cry for those who wanted to get involved but didn’t know how.
- Activation @ The Selma 55th Anniversary Jubilee – It was an honor to link arms where it all began on the Edmund Pettus Bridge March 7, 1965. The excitement was palpable, and our campaign was a huge hit with the exact voters we were most passionate about reaching.
